Ethyl Acetate NF/USP Grade

NF/USP Grade

Product Summary

Ethyl acetate supplied against NF and USP monograph requirements, for pharmaceutical processing, extraction and food-flavour use. Lots are traceable to the production batch and travel in sealed packing.

  • CAS number141-78-6
  • Limit basisNF and USP monographs, current edition
  • PositionSynthesis, extraction and food-flavour work that needs a pharmacopoeial paper trail
Ethyl acetate NF drum label showing hazard symbols and UN 1173 marking

Monograph Limits

Monograph limits, to be verified against the current edition before a batch is released.

Monograph limits. Verify against the current edition of the NF and USP monographs.

Monograph limits, to be verified against the current edition. Where a customer specification sets a tighter limit than the monograph, the customer specification governs and is stated on the order.

Compliance

Compliance Map

Not every number on a certificate carries the same weight. Five tests decide release; the rest are plant data that show a trend.

Monograph limits decide release. Data outside the monograph is tracked as a trend and is not used as a release criterion, however useful it is for spotting drift.

Decides release

  • Assay 99.0–100.5%The figure the certificate is signed against.
  • Relative density 0.894–0.898Measured at 25 °C; an identity test as much as a purity test.
  • Chromatographic purity NLT 99.5%Separates the ester from the alcohol and acid that sit next to it.
  • Water ≤0.2%Looser than a solvent specification; the monograph is written for pharmaceutical use, not for moisture-sensitive chemistry.
  • Residue on evaporation ≤0.02%Sets the ceiling on non-volatile material left in a concentrate.

Tracked as trend

  • Colour ≤10A monograph limit, but usually watched as a trend line rather than a release gate.
  • Moisture pickup after openingNot a monograph test, yet it explains most "the drum worked last month" complaints.
  • Odour panelSensory data for flavour work; no monograph equivalent.
  • Lot-to-lot distillation profileUseful for drying behaviour, not a release criterion for this grade.

Food use runs on a different file path from pharmaceutical use: E 1504 / INS 1504 for flavour extraction, with the same sealed packing but a food-grade declaration instead of a pharmacopoeial certificate. Say which route the destination market requires when you order.

Handling

Handling Notes

A pharmacopoeial lot loses its status through contamination, not through time. Four points keep the paper trail intact.

  • Sealed between drawsKeep the drum sealed; pharmacopoeial packing is closed-head for this reason.
  • Clean shared linesShared lines need cleaning validation before a pharmacopoeial lot runs.
  • Segregate gradesDo not store industrial grade in the same bund; mixing destroys lot traceability.
  • Process validation stays yoursResidual solvent control belongs to your process validation, not to the solvent certificate.

Applications

Typical Applications

Pharmaceutical and food-flavour work where the certificate matters as much as the assay.

API synthesis and crystallisation Natural product extraction Pharmaceutical process cleaning Flavour extraction carrier Laminating adhesive, indirect contact

For European pharmacopoeial paperwork, take the EP grade instead; the two routes differ in test list and document language, not in the ester itself.

Packing

Packing and Delivery

Sealed drums are the default; large-volume options are confirmed against the documentation the destination market needs.

Sealed 200 L drums

Closed-head drums with intact seals and the lot number on the label.

IBC on request

Offered where volume justifies it and the receiving site can keep it sealed.

Lot traceability

Batch traceable to production, with documents prepared to customer requirement.

Fill weights are calculated at a density of approx. 0.90 g/ml at 20 °C and confirmed per order. Transport follows UN 1173, Class 3.
