Home/Ethyl Acetate 99.8%
99.8% Grade
The grade with a published Sasol specification, and the workhorse for coatings, inks, adhesives and extraction. Purity is 99.8% min on a wet basis by GC; CAS 141-78-6.

Sasol Ethyl Acetate Product Specification, Version 9a (27 Oct 2015). This is the only grade in the range with a published Sasol specification; the certificate of the shipped lot travels with the parcel.
Spec Reading
Each line of the specification answers a different question on the line. These notes explain what the number actually controls.
Purity min 99.8 wt%, wet basis GC
Wet basis counts the water in the sample. On a dry basis the same lot reads 0.1 to 0.2 points higher, so compare like with like before quoting a purity figure.
Water max 0.03 wt% ASTM D1364
Karl Fischer titration to ASTM D1364. ISO 760 on the same sample can read a few ppm apart, so agree the method in the purchase order rather than after delivery.
Ethanol max 0.02 wt% GC
Ethanol is the second consumer of isocyanate and it shifts the evaporation profile. At 0.02% there is little room for a second alcohol cut in the blend.
Acidity max 0.005 wt% ASTM D1613
Titrated as acetic acid. Low acidity protects metal substrates from flash rust and keeps amine curing agents from being neutralised.
Colour max 5 Pt-Co ASTM D5386 / D1209
A colour limit is a proxy for heavier by-products. It matters most on clear coats, ink vehicles and any product sold on appearance.
IBP min 76.0 °C, dry point max 78.5 °C ASTM D1078
A band of about 2.5 °C is what makes the drying rate predictable batch to batch. A wider tail can leave solvent in a thick film.
Residue max 2 mg/100 ml ASTM D1353
Residue stays in the film after the solvent leaves. At 2 mg/100 ml it is the practical ceiling for appearance-critical work.
Processing
Miscible with alcohols, esters and ketones, which makes it easy to place in an existing solvent balance.
Applications
The grade that covers most coatings, ink and adhesive work, with a published specification behind every lot.
Packing
Drum, IBC, ISO tank or bulk parcel, with same-lot continuous supply where the line needs it.
Approx. 180 kg net, closed-head steel drum.
Approx. 900 kg net, discharge valve for closed transfer.
Bulk parcels and same-lot continuous supply on request.
Fill weights are calculated at a density of approx. 0.90 g/ml at 20 °C and confirmed per order. Export documents are prepared before the container leaves.

One step down for cost, one step up for trace control.
